THE
STAGE PRODUCTION
Feedback
was written by the highly-acclaimed South African actor, director,
playwright and drama professor, Andrew Buckland.
It premiered at the Standard Bank National Festival of the Arts
in July 1994, under the direction of Janet Buckland for Mouthpeace
Productions. It immediately met with great success and the script
won the 1994 FNB Vita Playwright of the Year
award.
Feedback was subsequently featured in a season at the Market Theatre
in Johannesburg in December 1994, where it received the comic input
of another of South Africa's theatre greats, Lionel
Newton. Andrew and Lionel had previously worked
together on the hugely successful "Bloodstream".
After this successful season, the trio took the play to
the Edinburgh Festival where it earned a Scotsman Fringe First award
and was commissioned for a season at the South Bank Centre in London.
Nine years and hundreds of performances later the play continues
to pack houses and now looks set to makes its debut in New York.
Feedback
is the dramatic account of the events surrounding the infamous encounter
between D'Earth, head of the D'Earth Foodstuffs Multinational, and
the legendary Mother Myrth, including the Great Cheeses Revolt of
2043, as well as some incidents from the Foodstuff Revolution.
It is a
murder-mystery that cunningly explores topics as
diverse as food-consciousness and globalization. Poignant, hilarious,
lyrical, satirical, action-intensive, quirky
and thoroughly entertaining, Feedback is a powerfully
satiric and hilariously fantastical celebration of humanity and
our capacity for greed and altruism.
